add shortcode to home page

I have tried to add a product slider to the front page by adding the PHP shortcode to the home template. It comes out working but not as intended, I think it may be the placement of the code I am adding. Is there a way to add a slider as a section or at least to appear as a section. I do this because as I replace the dummy data the new products are not showing on trending or best sellers.
